My brief feedback on Mindvalley’s Lifebook.

In its simplest form, Lifebook is basically goal setting, but on a much higher level. The program, in my opinion, is intended for participants who are serious about and devoted to improving all facets of their lives.

While there are undoubtedly more affordable and convenient alternatives (which I’ll go over later), they don’t offer the same level of depth as Lifebook.

Why you should read this review

I’m an addict of personal growth. Reading self-help and spiritual works at first, followed by taking advantage of free courses, then attending paid events and programs, was the initial step (including several other Mindvalley quests)

But if you ever met me, you’d realize that I’m not one of those persons that just naturally exudes “rainbow vibes.” I’m a skeptic at heart.

I became this way due to both my personality and my work.

I have a Master’s in Journalism, and I have spent more than ten years as a news reporter looking into the details of stories. So let’s just say that my tolerance for BS is really low.

This review of Lifebook is clearly just my personal viewpoint, but I do promise that it will be my completely unvarnished assessment after taking the course.

Lifebook Online: What is it?

In the six-week Lifebook course, Jon and Missy Butcher assist you in creating a 100-page “lifebook” of your own.

It’s now among the most well-liked courses offered by Mindvalley. That is most likely a result of the course being a great “all-rounder” type of personal development course.

That enables you to take a broad view of many various aspects of your life, determine what you want, and then design your “dream life” based on your choices.

There are 12 main categories in Lifebook, and they all work together to help you develop your own unique vision for a prosperous life.

Why I chose to join Lifebook

I believe that the Covid 19 pandemic caused many of us to reflect on life, and I am no exception.

Although I’ve done goal-setting work in the past, my life has changed significantly over the past few years, and I’ve come to the realization that what I was seeking for previously is no longer true.

It’s really simple to find oneself coasting through life, either feeling lost or floating aimlessly.

The majority of us are so preoccupied with simply surviving that we don’t always take the time to consider those crucial, more profound concerns, like what do I really want? Am I content? If I’m completely honest with myself, what aspects of my life require more of my attention?

I had not recently conducted a thorough life evaluation.

Who are Jon and Missy Butcher?

The Lifebook approach was developed by Jon and Missy Butcher.

They appear to lead a “perfect life” that is almost sickeningly sweet. They have been happily married for many years, are in excellent shape, and run numerous prosperous businesses.

But their explanation of why they chose to share Lifebook did lend them more credence in my eyes.

They don’t appear to be fame-hungry because they appear to be already wealthy and hesitant to share details about their personal life.

Instead, they assert that they sincerely desired to have an influence and produce something that would be useful to everyone. According to them, Lifebook was transformed into this program for fulfillment-related reasons rather than to make a quick money.

In this case, Lifebook is likely A GOOD FIT for you:

  • You desire a better life, but you lack a clear understanding of what that entails, let alone how to achieve it. Before you set your goals, it might especially assist you gain more clarity.
  • You’re determined to change your life. It shouldn’t be surprising that this program requires time and work in order to be successful. It involves long-term mental changes just as much as it does merely imagining your ideal life. Making your ideal life a reality requires patience since change takes time.
  • You enjoy organizing things, or even if you don’t, you realize that you probably should. It’s a great method to start changing because this is a pretty thorough and complete way to outline your goals.

In this case, Lifebook might NOT be a suitable fit for you.

  • You anticipate finishing once the six-week course is through. The “thought step of realizing your perfect life vision,” as Lifebook describes itself. But it’s important to keep in mind that you’ll eventually need to put in the effort to make it happen. Everyone seeks fast fixes (and marketing usually taps into this desire). But we all know in our hearts that if we’re not willing to do our part, it won’t work.
  • Your victim mindset has taken over. But if you are locked in the belief that life is what it is and that you cannot alter it, there is little purpose in starting this adventure. I highly doubt that you would even be thinking about purchasing this program if you were. The focus of this course is on accepting accountability for your actions and life.
  • You seek advice on how to enjoy your life to the fullest. Although you receive advice and recommendations, the solutions must ultimately originate from you. You are urged to come to your own conclusions regarding how you want your life to be. Along the road, you must be proactive and disciplined.

What is the price of Lifebook?

The current Lifebook enrollment fee is $500, and the Mindvalley annual membership does not cover it. Although the website claims that the price has been reduced from $1250, I have never actually seen it promoted at the higher cost.

The fact that money in Lifebook is treated as a “accountability deposit” rather than a payment is actually pretty cool.

You can ask for the $500 refund at the end as long as you complete all of the required work and adhere to the recommended path of study.

What to expect when enrolling in the Lifebook course

Before beginning:

There is a brief examination to complete before beginning, which consists of just a few questions. It merely takes a few minutes and encourages reflection on the present situation.

You receive a sort of life satisfaction score from it. At the conclusion of the course, you retake the evaluation to compare your progress. There are no right or wrong answers, but the goal is to raise your score, so hopefully you succeed.

You are then urged to “join the tribe,” which is essentially a support network of people who are participating in the program with you. To be really honest, I didn’t join since I’m not the joining type.

However, I truly believe that this is a pretty smart idea. It implies that you receive more support and direction along the route. Sharing with others who are in the same situation as you can help you stay committed.

Before the course officially starts, there are a few extras you can do, such as some Q&A videos.

There were quite a few, but each video contains a separate question that is time-stamped. So instead of watching hours of more stuff, I just quickly glanced over the ones I was most interested in.

Lifebook takes how long to complete?

Over the course of six weeks, you move through each of the 12 categories, covering two every week.

With the optional supplementary FAQ videos you can watch each week, which might take anywhere from an additional 1-3 hours, you’re looking at around 3 hours of work per week, or about 18 for the entire course.

Given that it only lasts for a month and a half, I thought this commitment was realistic and manageable.

Let’s face it, more people would already be living their dream lives if doing so didn’t require any time or effort.

Despite the fact that I work for myself and don’t have children, You must thus make the time if you are busier than I am, or you risk falling behind.

How is the layout of Lifebook?

Each of the 12 categories has a similar structure when it comes to constructing your Lifebook, and you’ll go through the same 4 questions for each one:

What empowering ideas do you have regarding this category?
Here, you examine your beliefs, which are crucial for implementing any lifestyle changes. This is due to the fact that, whether they are accurate or not, our ideas secretly control our actions. You are therefore urged to consider the constructive beliefs you hold in several spheres of your life.

What would be your perfect world?
Going after what you actually want rather than merely settling for what you believe you can get is a key lesson you learn throughout the course.

For me, this was crucial because I struggle with this a lot. I had a relatively “typical” upbringing, therefore I often place restrictions on myself by choosing objectives that seem “practical.” I enjoyed the added push to dream bigger because I do find it difficult to imagine big.

How come you desire that?
Finding the strongest motivator to keep you moving toward your goals is the focus of this section. Knowing what you want is excellent, but you also need to understand why you want it if you want to have any chance of achieving it.

What I consider to be Lifebook’s benefits and drawbacks

Pros of lifebook (things I liked about it)

  • It’s a very comprehensive and well-rounded method of goal planning, which many individuals use incorrectly when they do it by themselves. Despite being easy to execute, it nevertheless has a lot of power.
  • I’m a strong proponent of balance, so I appreciate Lifebook’s well-rounded perspective that a great life is made up of many different elements. I do believe that a lot of human development when it comes to achievement may be extremely materialistically centered and really money-centric.
  • But what good is having a million dollars in the bank if you have to give up all of your social life or free time to keep it? Having a life full of good things is something that most of us would prefer, but that doesn’t encompass everything that constitutes a successful existence.
  • It places you in control of your own life. We want you to consider what’s most important to you. Additionally, it places the onus on you rather than some guru who is supposed to have all the answers.
  • In the area of personal development, there is a lot of chatter about specialists who claim to “empower you.” Personally, I believe that in order to be empowered, you must first empower yourself. You must take responsibility for your own empowerment; no one can do it for you.
  • Much more support is included, as with many Mindvalley programs, such as The Tribe and the Q&A sessions. I enjoyed seeing Jon’s own lifebook, which you can download as a PDF and which gives you a better sense of what you’re doing. Before purchasing a lot of personal development courses, you need to know what you’re looking for. You might desire to lose weight, eat healthier, sharpen your memory, etc.
  • But I’ve discovered that a lot of us aren’t really searching for what we want. So before creating an action plan to alter your life, this is a wonderful course for determining what you want in the first place.
  • The $500 price tag can make you more devoted. In my experience as a life coach, I quickly learned that when we are given extremely useful information for free, something peculiar occurs – we don’t value it as highly since it is free.

Cons of Lifebook (features I didn’t like)

  • There is undoubtedly no “perfect life.” I frequently pondered whether being very goal-oriented could make you feel under pressure to have everything together in your life.
  • There are only so many hours in the day, and as our priorities change, life can occasionally go a little out of balance. Therefore, I believe that while taking this course, you must also keep in mind that it’s okay to be a typical (flawed) human being as well, rather than aiming to be superhuman.
  • You could find that some of the 12 categories don’t apply to you as much as others because they aren’t necessarily personalized to your unique circumstances.
  • For instance, since I’m not a parent and don’t plan to be one, the parenting component wasn’t as relevant to me.
  • Having said that, it does seem like the parts cover the key facets of what most of us would consider to be a meaningful existence. Nothing particularly stood out to me as being lacking.
  • For my part, I would have like more in-depth research on beliefs and an explanation of how they are formed. Yes, we may select our ideas, but I thought it was a little overlooked how deeply embedded they are in the majority of us.
  • It could take more effort to change your deeply held beliefs than simply making up new ones if you have extremely negative ones about yourself and the world.
  • I can’t help but believe that, for the majority of us, intentionally rewriting and choosing the beliefs we wish to have is a terrific place to start. It is not that simple.
  • I am unsure if it can result in whitewashing over how we truly feel and attempting to replace it with how we think we should feel without the deeper work.
  • But in all honesty, I might just be being picky.

More Information About “Lifebook”

What Lifebook did for me as a result:

I really felt more grounded after taking Lifebook; I felt like I knew where I stood in each area of my life.

Goal-setting work is something I’ve done in the past, but in recent years I’ve become really disoriented. So I still had a lot of old ideas about my life floating around before I started Lifebook. I then got a much better understanding of what I am seeking for right now.

In life, I like to follow the flow. Even while adaptability is a crucial component of resilience and success, I am sometimes guilty of wandering without a clear direction or a plan for how I’ll get there.

So Lifebook also assisted me in distilling more abstract concepts into more doable stages.

It hasn’t instantaneously made me rich or helped me meet the love of my life, but it has enabled me to revamp my life and get my sh*t together.

What are some Lifebook alternatives?

The most comprehensive goal-setting course on Mindvalley, in my opinion, is Lifebook. It’s important to note, however, that a Mindvalley Membership may be purchased annually for $499, making it comparable to Lifebook in pricing.

The membership does not include Lifebook because it is a partner program. However, a Mindvalley membership grants you access to dozens of additional personal development courses on topics including health, mind, and soul as well as job, entrepreneurship, relationships, and parenting.

These courses would cost thousands of dollars if you had to purchase them separately.

So if you already know what aspects of your life you want to work on, this might be a better fit for you.

Exist any Lifebook equivalents that are free or affordable?

Lifebook is built on many well used techniques for defining goals, but it does it in an exceedingly thorough and accelerated manner.

There are several less expensive and even free alternatives you may test first if you’re not ready to invest the money or aren’t sure you want to commit.

There are several broad goal-setting style courses available on online learning platforms like Udemy and Skillshare. They are typically less expensive than Lifebook, but they are also shorter and less detailed.

Lifebook: Is it worth it?

I really believe that Lifebook will produce results for you if you are motivated to improve. When I think of all the flimsy things I’ve squandered money on over the years, the $500 still seems like a good deal to me.

But the fact that this program is practically free — as long as you show up for yourself and do the work necessary to qualify for the reimbursement at the end — is what makes it a no-brainer for me.

Even before taking any action, all the reflection is quite potent. It can be challenging to ignore what you discover after you lift the veil on your life. But once you’ve written your Lifebook, you actually need to put it into action if you want the best results.
